We’re delighted to announce the launch of the new Gravitas Diversity & Inclusion Committee. This will be a new body within the company for championing all things related to diversity, inclusion and equality.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of our Committee Members and hearing their thoughts on this vitally important subject. But first, here’s some background on the D&I Committee, from our D&I Chair, Rhona…
“I’m very excited to introduce Gravitas’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee and present myself as the Chair.
Most people at Gravitas know me as Rhona in Talent Acquisition (the loud and very proud Scottish one), but they may not know me as someone who is also deeply and unequivocally passionate about human rights, activism and politics – so, hello!!
As some of you may be aware, a group of us have been working behind the scenes to establish something incredibly important, not only to Gravitas, but to Society as a whole.
With the tragic death of George Floyd in May 2020, the world accelerated its journey of education and change. We as Brits often see ourselves as forward-thinking, revolutionary individuals, with positive and tolerant mindsets. But is it really enough to think that we are merely tolerant?
Absolutely not!
It’s time for us to open up conversations about change within society. But it’s also paramount that we begin to action change within the walls of our workplace.
The D&I Committee are focused upon paving the way for company action within Gravitas, ensuring that we are dedicated to not only creating an environment that encourages the celebration and understanding of different cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, religions and abilities, but also creating a workplace that every Gravitonian can be proud of.
So far, the D&I committee have been meeting regularly, to discuss our strategy moving forward. We’ve written some insightful articles during Black History Month & Disability Awareness Month. We’ve also begun having conversations with our clients about the importance of D&I, both within recruitment and the wider corporate world.
Not only do we want to expose all of Gravitas to as much education and awareness on the topic of D&I as possible; but we also want to make sure that it is reflected within our day-to-day work and passed on to our candidates and clients.
This is not a box that we want to tick, to say “Yes, we are diverse” and “Yes, we are inclusive” – it truly must be the case.
Change starts with you, and it continues with the collaboration and celebration of what you have learned. Our participation is essential, and it must be appropriate. Educate yourself where you can, support and donate to charities, engage in conversations and share information that has inspired you.
As the D&I Committee Chairperson, I will be the point of contact for anyone in the business that would be interested in learning more, joining the committee, or raising issues that they feel need to be heard. We are committed to ensuring that this group becomes a fantastic entity in its own right…something that positively influences the growth and future of Gravitas.
Thank you!”
Rhona Williams, Talent Acquisition Consultant, London.
